Like any rural place, the Iron Range has its own distinct culture, climate, and practices – and we want to help you navigate it all and make a home here! Whether you’re discovering our stoic Finnish-American and Slavic heritage or experiencing your first Range winter, we’re here to make this transition to the Range easier.
Connecting in a new community can be challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone. Our FREE, chill meet-ups are designed to create a place for new folks to connect into community, get warm introductions based on their interests, and try area activities for free. Some Iron Rangers may seem reserved at first – that’s our ethnic heritage showing! – but don’t let that fool you. We are truly glad you’re here, and these gatherings are our way of showing it.
Each gathering features:
Best of all? Every gathering is completely free, thanks to our generous community partners.
From state-backed loans to local grants, we have funding options that could work for you. Our local experts will help you find the right fit.
Our local development teams know the Iron Range inside and out. They can guide you through permits, planning, and more for your business.
Interested in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or operating equipment? Our unions offer training and support to help you build a strong career.

Anyone new to the Iron Range! Whether you arrived last week or last year, you’re welcome. Even if you’re just considering a move to the Range, come join us to learn more about the community.
Our community blends rich cultural heritage with modern opportunities. From our stoic Finnish and Slavic roots to our love of sauna (“sow-na”) culture and seasonal activities, the Range has a distinctive way of life that newcomers grow to cherish.
Each meeting includes a light dinner, a featured topic about Range life, and plenty of time for organic conversation. You’ll meet other newcomers and connect with long-time residents who are eager to share their knowledge and experience.
Just bring yourself and your questions! Whether you’re wondering about winter tire recommendations, where to hike, or the best local coffee shops, no question is too big or small.
Beyond our gatherings, we can connect you with volunteer opportunities through the United Way’s Volunteer Hub. It’s a great way to meet people while making a difference in your new community.
